Washington Commanders Executive Suspended Following On-Camera Trashing of Players, Fans, and NFL Leaders

Conservative guerrilla journalist James O’Keefe has claimed another scalp. Ironically, this time it is from a professional sports franchise that recently changed its name to avoid association with, among other things, scalping.

Rael Enteen, Vice President of Content for the Washington Commanders, has been suspended by the team following O’Keefe’s September 4, 2024, release of Enteen captured on video maligning white and black players on the team, its fans, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Enteen’s comments include accusations of racism, homophobia, and alcoholism.

The footage was captured over the course of two outings by a member of O’Keefe’s organization pretending to be dating Enteen. To put it mildly, what came out of Enteen’s mouth during the two evenings was astonishing.

Some highlights:

When asked his opinion of the Commanders roster, Enteen focused not on athletic ability but rather on demographics he found highly distasteful. (NOTE: For clarity’s sake, light editing has been done on the comments.)

Over 50% of our roster is either white religious — and God says (expletive) the gays, in their interpretation; I don’t buy into any of that, but that’s the fact — (or) very low-income African-American that comes from a community that is inherently very homophobic. I love hip-hop. Hip-hop is very homophobic. It’s a cultural thing that I hope gets better.

I would say more than 50% are probably homophobic, and the remaining — let’s even say it’s 49% — are not necessarily homophobic. But that doesn’t mean they want to go on record with a video saying, “Come out to Pride Parade.”

As one has no doubt guessed by now, Enteen isn’t keen on the intellectual level of NFL players.

There are some that are dumb as all hell, and there are others that are very smart. I think there’s also a real sad but true reality that some start smart, and they get hit in the head so much that they don’t stay smart. I hate to say it, (but) athletes and especially NFL players who get their head knocked around a bunch of times — they’re more susceptible to stupid conspiracy theories.

The people who pay Enteen’s salary, namely the fans in the stands? He’s not a fan.

Most of the fans, I would say, are high school-educated alcoholics. I mean, there’s fights in the stands all the time.

When the journalist used the term “lower-class people” in her follow-up question, Enteen replied:

I hate to use that term. I would just say mouth breathers. (Laughs) I know it’s way worse. All they need to do is look at their beer sales to know they’re alcoholics.

For someone holding a gig most media creatives (including yours truly) would dearly love to have, Enteen doesn’t think much of the job.

My job is to sell hope to the fans, right? I need them buying tickets. When there’s not much hope to sell, I still gotta dig deep to find it.

As an example, Enteen offered this moment:

We had pipes leaking sewage on our fans in the middle of a game. And I have to put out a social post saying, “It wasn’t sewage water. We promise.” That is state-run media.

Enteen offered these words of unintentional comfort to fans and former fans decrying how the NFL went woke in 2020.

OMG JOURNALIST: So how do you explain the fact that the NFL is very much into social justice?

ENTEEN: It’s performative.

OMG JOURNALIST: What do you mean?

ENTEEN: I mean, it’s not done out of the goodness of their heart and morality. It’s done because George Floyd changed the game.

I mean that the social justice efforts are a performance for the sake of public perception, and not because they want to actually push progress.

OMG JOURNALIST: To get support from liberals?

ENTEEN: No. I think it’s to make as much money as possible. I think the NFL cares about the bottom line, like any corporation, above all else. And they don’t need to really pinch pennies, because they make so much revenue. Therefore, they can faux-prioritize DEI for the sake of good publicity.

Enteen referred to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell as a “$50 million puppet.” He added:

I don’t think the commissioner of the NFL hates gay people, hates black people. So Jerry Jones, for instance, the (Dallas Cowboys) owner who really runs the NFL, I think he hates gay people and black people.

The Washington Commanders website features the slogan “Raise Hail,” an unspoken acknowledgment of the team’s “Hail to the Redskins” song back when the team bore that name. Now that at least one executive’s thoughts are known, about the only command the Commanders can give to themselves as an organization is exerting maximum damage control.
