Skanska has signed a $450 million contract with the Massachusetts Port Authority for construction improvements at Boston’s Logan Airport’s Terminal E, the firm announced Dec. 13.

As part of the project, the Sweden-based contractor and developer will construct a new 725,000-square-foot, 5,000-space Terminal E parking garage. The structure will be built atop an existing parking lot in front of Terminal E, a Skanska spokesperson told Construction Dive. Skanska will need to demolish some of the departures level viaduct to build the new garage.

Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2025 and the garage is anticipated to be complete in 2028.

In addition, Skanska will construct a vehicular bridge to connect to the existing central parking complex, as well as a new pedestrian bridge connecting the garage to terminals E and C. The contractor will also modify the arrival and departure roadways to accommodate access to the garage.

As part of the project, Skanska will place PV panels on the garage façade and roof to offset electricity consumption. The project will also seek a Parksmart certification issued by the Green Building Certification Institute.

Logan International Airport’s Terminal E Modernization project will add four new gate piers, 16 ticket counters, a modern hold room and concession and lounge spaces, according to the project website.

Other new amenities include a mothers’ room, a pet relief area and a sensory room.
