ANIMALS THAT START WITH THE LETTER R:

There are so many animals that start with a letter R. When you look at animals that begin with the letter R, you will find awesome animals that begin with the sound of R! I think you will agree when you read the fun facts associated with letter R animals.

1. RACCOON is an animal that starts with R

Raccoons are active-at-night, or nocturnal, mammals that live throughout much of the world, from North and South America to Asia, in wooded areas and big cities alike. On land, raccoons lumber around on all four paws like a bear. Among the raccoon’s favorite foods on land are: fruits, seeds, nuts, birds’ eggs and plants. In cities, raccoons scavenge around garbage bins and will eat scraps of food and other trash found there. Raccoons are also excellent swimmers, hunting fish, frogs, and crayfish.

2. RAT is an animal that starts with R

The rat is a medium-sized rodent. Rats eat lots of different types of food. The best-known rat species are the black rat and the brown rat. This group, generally known as the Old World rats or true rats, originated in Asia. Male rats are called bucks; females are does; and babies are pups. A group of rats is referred to as a mischief.

People keep some types of rats as pets called “fancy rats”. Fancy rats are domesticated brown rats. People have kept rats as pets since the 19th century. Rats are social and smart animals that can be trained. They also like to play with toys. They can be all one color or have spots or other coloring. Pet rats do not act the same as wild rats. They do not have more diseases than other common pets.

3. REINDEER is an animal that starts with R

Reindeer live in the Arctic tundra and damp forests of Greenland, Scandinavia, Russia, Alaska and Canada. In North America, reindeer are known as caribou. They are the only deer species in which both the male and female can grow antlers. The reindeer is the only deer that has been domesticated. These gentle creatures eat mostly grass, but eat also almost any other plant. In winter they often eat Reindeer lichen, moss and fungi.

In Frozen II, the make-believe Northuldra tribe you see in the Enchanted Forest are based on the Sámi people – the famous reindeer herders of northern Norway. The Sámi really do use reindeer to pull sleighs through the snow, just like Sven does in the movie.

4. RED PANDA is an animal that starts with R

The red panda is dwarfed by the black-and-white giant that shares its name. These pandas typically grow to the size of a house cat, though their big, bushy tails add an additional 18 inches. The pandas use their ringed tails as wraparound blankets in the chilly mountains of Nepal and northern Myanmar (Burma), as well as in central China. These animals spend most of their lives in trees and even sleep aloft. When foraging, they are most active at night as well as in the gloaming hours of dusk and dawn.

5. RABBIT is an animal that starts with R

Rabbits are very social creatures that live in groups. They live in warrens — a series of tunnels and rooms that they dig underground. Like cats, happy rabbits purr when they’re content and relaxed. Another cute thing they will do is a “ binky” which is an athletic leap with twists and kicks in mid air! A rabbit’s teeth never stop growing! Instead, they’re gradually worn down as the rabbit chews on grasses, wildflowers and vegetables — meaning they never get too long.

1. R is for Rhode Island

Roger Williams—a man who’d been banished from the nearby Massachusetts Bay Colony because of his religious beliefs—founded the Rhode Island colony. The region would become known as a spot where people of many different religions could practice freely. In 1776 Rhode Island became the first colony to declare independence from Great Britain. It is the smallest state in the United States. Rhode Island is only about 48 miles long and 37 miles wide — only 1,034 square miles.

2. R is for Rio de Janeiro

Founded in 1565 by the Portuguese, the city was initially the seat of the Captaincy of Rio de Janeiro, a domain of the Portuguese Empire. Later, in 1763, it became the capital of the State of Brazil, a state of the Portuguese Empire. Rio de Janeiro is one of the most visited cities in the Southern Hemisphere. In addition to the beaches, some of the most famous landmarks include the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado mountain, named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

3. R is for Rome

Rome is a major European political and cultural center. It is home of the pope and was one of the most powerful cities of antiquity (the old world). The ancient city currently contains numerous museums, basilicas and palaces, such as the Colosseum. Rome enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild, humid winters and warm, dry summers.
