The NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers have broken ground on a state-of-the-art training and performance complex, per an Oct. 14 release.
Along with Cleveland Clinic and Bedrock Real Estate, the Cavs turned dirt on the 210,000-square-foot Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center designed by Kansas City, Missouri-based architecture firm Populous. It is scheduled to open in 2027.
The facility is the first vertical development in Bedrock Real Estate’s $3.5 billion Cuyahoga Riverfront Masterplan. The Cleveland City Council voted to advance the plan in September 2023.
Bedrock will transform 35 acres along the riverfront, according to the city of Cleveland. Construction on initial public infrastructure improvements began in October 2023.
The plan anticipates over 3.5 million square feet of mixed-use development, anchored by the public improvements. It will include residential, commercial, office, retail and entertainment space with more than 12 acres reserved for public parks.
The new center will feature advanced technology and equipment, biomechanical testing systems, high-tech training equipment, virtual reality and simulation technology and wearable sensors for performance monitoring, according to the release. Its medical facilities will be open to the general public, with care available from professionals with expertise in fields such as sports medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, nutrition, psychology and genetics.
