United States House Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) underwent successful emergency surgery on April 2, 2024, to treat a blood clot in her leg. According to a statement released by her campaign, Boebert began suffering severe swelling in her upper leg on April 1, prompting her visit to UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado. At the facility, she was diagnosed with May-Thurner Syndrome.
May-Thurner syndrome is a condition that affects blood flow. It occurs when the right iliac artery, which sends blood to your right leg, presses on the left iliac vein, which carries blood from your left leg to your heart. Some people have no symptoms of May-Thurner syndrome. Others develop deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or blood clots in the legs.
According to the statement from Boebert’s campaign, the attending physicians treated her condition by removing the clot and inserting a stent into the affected vein to prevent the reoccurrence of symptoms. Boebert is predicted to soon resume normal activity.
“We successfully performed surgery on the Congresswoman this morning and expect her to make a full recovery,” said the hospital’s Dr. Rebecca Bade in a statement released by Boebert’s campaign. “Patients with May-Thurner Syndrome who undergo the procedure to restore blood flow are able to live and work just as they have in the past after a brief recovery.”
Her campaign spokesman told Colorado Politics that Boebert was forced to cancel a speaking engagement scheduled for Wednesday but should be back on the campaign trail soon.
Boebert is presently involved in a challenging battle to keep her House seat. She is running in Colorado’s 4th District to replace Ken Buck. Buck announced in December 2023 that he would not run for reelection. At that time, Boebert announced she would run for reelection in the 4th District and not the 3rd District she currently represents. Buck subsequently resigned from Congress in March 2024. Following Buck’s resignation, Boebert opted not to run in the special election to replace Buck for the remainder of his term but instead continue in the regular primary held on June 25. While the 4th District seat is by all estimations safely Republican, polling paid for by presumed Democratic challenger Ike McCorkle shows him with a seven point lead in the possible November matchup.

If Colorado voters do this Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) will have no problem being re-elected. She is right-of-center, acts with common sense, and thinks of America first.
