Jill Biden Leads in to Joe Biden's Farewell Speech With a Re-endorsement of Kamala Harris

As news surfaced about First Lady Jill Biden grumbling about her husband being strong-armed out of the Democrat nomination for president, speculation emerged about the manner of the speech she might give on Night 1 of the Democrat National Convention.

First lady Jill Biden will have a “role” on the first day of the Democratic National Convention to honor and preserve the legacy of her husband, President Joe Biden despite having voiced her disappointment with those who encouraged the president to exit the 2024 race, according to a report.

According to NBC News, the first lady will give a tribute to her husband in her speech, touting her husband’s 50-year legacy of public service.

Her public appearance at the event celebrating the fresh Democratic party picks — vice president Kamala Harris and Minnesota governor Tim Walz — is notable given the allegations that the first lady has “privately expressed dismay at some Democrats” who did not publicly support President Biden’s re-election bid, the outlet reported.

“She’s tough and of course defends her family when she needs to,” Elizabeth Alexander, the first lady’s communications director, told NBC News. “Always has, always will.”

The DNC led into her speech with a glossy video of Dr. Jill Biden and her photo ops/accomplishments. A crying young girl overcome with emotion introduced her via video to the audience. While Biden’s dress wasn’t her usual fashion fail, the rhinestone number was more night club than DNC convention. She looked a tad overdressed for the occasion.

After an already overly-long Night 1 of the convention, and President Joe Biden still slated to end the evening, Dr. Biden’s speech was mercifully short and basically a reinforcement of President Biden’s endorsement of Kamala Harris to be his replacement for 2024.

Joe and I have been together for almost 50 years. And still there are moments when I fall in love with him all over again.

No one believes this, but it makes for good speech copy. Biden rattled off moments where this recommitment to love happened. Then Biden rounded it out with,

Those moments when I am reminded of all he accomplished was for something bigger than himself. Placing his hand on our family Bible to take his oath of office. And weeks ago, when I saw him dig deep into his soul and decide to no longer seek re-election and endorse Kamala Harris.

Mercifully she avoided invoking former President Donald Trump and quickly connected Joe’s deep commitment to sacrifice and country with Kamala Harris’ values.

Which is also something that no one believes.

With faith and conviction, Joe knows our nation’s strength doesn’t come from intimidation or cruelty. Kamala Harris knows that too.

Biden continued explaining how they met Kamala Harris through their son Beau Biden and how he deemed her as “someone special.”

Joe and I know Kamala. We have seen her courage, her determination, and her leadership up close. Kamala and Tim, you will win! And you are inspiring a new generation. We are all a part of something bigger than ourselves, and we are stronger than we know. The future of our country are in the hands on those in this room and all of you watching at home. It’s going to take all of us and we can’t afford to lose. We will fight and we will win together!

A fairly generic speech, devoid of the charged emotions and gravity that resulted in this moment. What’s the expression? Republicans fall in love, Democrats fall in line. This speech was Dr. Jill Biden in perfect formation.
