With a number of games coming down to the final snap, Week 5 of the NFL season produced another round of great quotes.
Reactions after a win vary by the victor, but the level of excitement rarely changes. Here are the top voices of victory from the NFL’s fifth week.
“I wish I could throw this [ball] all the way up to the rooftops right now.”
For the first time since 2016, the Minnesota Vikings are 5-0.
Another stalwart outing from Minnesota’s defense helped the Vikings secure a win in London, with Aaron Rodgers throwing three interceptions. Veteran defensive back Stephon Gilmore came up big with the final pick, effectively ending the game with less than a minute to play.
After the victory, O’Connell was fired up about awarding that week’s game ball to his entire defensive unit.
“We’ll settle for the time running out in the end.”
After three consecutive losses, the Miami Dolphins got back on track with a win over another struggling AFC East team, the New England Patriots.
Miami’s offense remained stuck in neutral for the most part in the 15-10 win, but the Dolphins’ defense held New England to under 300 yards of total offense and one touchdown.
Huntley, making his second start for the team, joked that while he was expecting the defense to close the game out with a turnover on the Patriots’ final possession, he was happy with seeing time expire as the Patriots took their final shot from the Miami 36.
“A GOAT. Best quarterback in the league. Stop playing with him man.”
The Baltimore Ravens captured their third consecutive win in a high-scoring affair. They scored 10 unanswered points in the final five minutes against the Cincinnati Bengals before leaving victorious after a walk-off Justin Tucker field goal in overtime.
Henry, whose 51-yard run set up Tucker’s game winner, offered high praise for quarterback Lamar Jackson after the thriller.
“We’re just talking about having that Mamba Mentality.”
For the second straight week, a Houston Texans game came down to the final seconds. And for the second straight week, the Texans pulled out a last-gasp victory.
Some unusual clock management led to a chaotic ending in Houston, with the final minute of the contest seeing, among other plays, a Texans punt, a subsequent Bills punt and then a game-winning 59-yard field goal by Ka’imi Fairbairn.
Fairbairn and Stroud are both fans of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, and Stroud credited Bryant’s signature mantra for being able to stay cool under pressure.
“It’s the same team, we just got that juice that we needed.”
The Jacksonville Jaguars are officially in the win column.
The Jaguars’ offense thrived in their 37-34 win over the visiting Indianapolis Colts, with Lawrence throwing for 371 yards and a pair of scores before a 49-yard field goal by Cam Little with 17 seconds left secured the divisional victory.
Lawrence said not much about Jacksonville’s situation has changed now that the team has its first win of the season — the Jaguars have just found some much-needed momentum ahead of their trip to London to face the Chicago Bears.
