8 Travel Outfits That Are the Perfect Combo of Stylish and Comfortable

Call me a little crazy, but I love the travel portion of a trip. Something about that first day of travel gives me the getting-out-of-school-on-a-Friday giddiness of a little kid. There’s so much anticipation for the trip ahead, and what kind of antics you and your travel buddies are about to get into are still up in the air. I also pride myself on being an expert at packing; I have a thoroughly written page filled with every outfit I’m wearing on my trip, including what I’m wearing on my travel days.

When I’m picking out my travel outfit, I typically want to wear something comfortable with layers that are easy to remove if I have to go through TSA or get too warm in the car. I also like to opt for clothing with extra pockets—like a denim jacket or cargo pants—that I can easily throw my phone and wallet into for easy access.

Have a trip coming up? These travel-day outfits strike the perfect balance of comfortable and chic. Bon Voyage!

A cozy matching set

What did we wear to the airport before matching sets existed? A knit matching set is as cozy as a pair of PJs; the only difference is that they’re actually acceptable to wear in public. As a bonus, you can break the set apart and style them separately (or together) throughout your trip.

A comfortable dress

I don’t know about you, but my perspective on dresses completely changed after the rise of the nap dress. They aren’t just for dressed-up events or days out; dresses that are just as comfortable as sweats now exist. No matter if you’re traveling by plane, train, or car, this one-and-done outfit will be the least of your worries.

A trench coat and sweat suit

Wearing sweats while traveling is sort of a no-brainer, but if you want to give your travel outfit a little bit more oomph, throw your trench coat on top. Not only will it free up space in your luggage, but you can take it off and use it as a blanket if you’re cold on a plane.

Cotton pants and your favorite white tee

While the boxer-short trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down soon, we’re excited to be seeing it evolve into full-length pants, too. These comfortable cotton pants are a great option to turn to when you don’t want to wear leggings or jeans. With an elastic waistband and ample leg room, they’re like a pair of trouser’s more comfortable cousin.

A monochrome lounge look

One of my favorite packing hacks is to wear my bulkiest coat while traveling to save room in my luggage. Have a little fun with your travel outfit and pair your coat with a workout set in a similar shade. Not only will you be comfortable, but the addition of a warm layer will have you ready for any AC that might be blasting throughout your travel day.

Cargo pants and a denim jacket

A denim jacket is a travel day staple, and is usually my #1 choice for a travel outfit. They usually have pockets that I can throw my wallet and phone into, rather than fishing around in my purse for them each time I need to pull them out. Your pit stops and TSA checks just got a whole lot easier.

A sweater and overalls

Heading on a road trip? There’s something about overalls that feel made for a car travel day. Paired with a cozy sweater and slip-on shoes (looking at you, trusty Birkenstock clogs), this is a comfortable outfit that’ll have you feeling like the main character.

An oversized button-up and comfortable jeans

For the people who like to wear jeans when they travel (we know you’re out there), keep it simple by pairing your comfiest denim with an oversized button-up. Complete the look with your favorite ballet flats or sneakers for a look you can head straight from the airport to dinner in.
